Prep talk

So yesterday, after I had deleted good writing software from my PC and collected all my notes into my Filo, I just couldn't wait any longer to get writing. But actually starting would be cheating ... and I like the 1667 a day for a month challenge ... so I decided to do a test run of the bare bones of the story. I basically wrote a summary of the main events - no dialogue, no emotional or descriptive stuff - and actually found a few weak spots, plot holes and inconsistencies which have now been patched up. This exercise has definitely made my story stronger. If I had run into these problems in November and had to solve them at speed, I might have lost my way completely in an attempt to bridge them. And although veering off the path is one of the great joys of Nanowrimo, I'd rather have 50K of a solid story by the end of November than having to delete 20K of tangents and dead ends straight away.
That's it, I feel ready now, and will spend the last week trying to get as much work done as possible, so I can take more time off in November!
