Dell Hell

Yes, I did. I ordered a new laptop when good, old Della gave up at least three quarters of the ghost the other week. It was then delivered, so far so good. It then got plugged in and fired up, ditto. From there on in - poo. It does nothing but crash, and I hasten to add that it is most probably the Vista which is the culprit, but still! One week, three reboots and God only knows how many crashes, restarts and lost - YES; LOST - emails, links, settings and shortcuts (the AUTOCORRECTIONS!!! aaargh!) and large chunks of my work for the last week due to spontaneous shutdowns, I have now given up on it. They can have it back. If they can't tell me on the phone how to do it, then they can come and get it, fix it and hand it back when it does what it is supposed to. Like connect to a printer. Or download something without getting a coughing fit. I'm just sayin.

aaaaargh indeed. You wouldn't credit it, but it happens all the time. My PC died on me the evening I was due to send my finished manuscript to my publisher. Honestly! I only save everything on 2 computers and a memory stick now. For a while after my disastrous crash, I saved everything on 3 memory sticks as well as 2 computers. Oh, and I also have an automatic weekly back up . . .
Good luck with your new laptop.
